Previous Game History: N/A

Personality: One of the most notable things about Tasuki is that he is, quite simply, LOUD. He has no concept of propriety and the phrase “indoor voice” would be utterly lost on him. In fact, a lot of things are lost on him. Tasuki is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He’s uneducated and crass and couldn’t be subtle or tactful to save his life.

Just because he’s had no education (even by the standards of Ancient China) doesn’t mean he’s helplessly stupid though! He can read people well and with ease. Tasuki is often shown to pick up on others’ emotions (and comment unthinkingly upon them) even if he doesn’t understand the situation or why delicacy should be used.

Part of this is because Tasuki is such a highly emotional person himself. He is hopelessly easy to read and finds it utterly impossible to hide any part of himself. Rather than thinking it a weakness, however, he feels that the strength of his emotions, the passion he possesses is where his own power comes from. He angers easily and cries just as readily.

Tasuki feels just as he does everything, with his fierce drive that encompasses his entire being. He is intensely loyal and there are few things that could ever change that. It is why he initially refuses the priestess when she comes to Reikaku, refusing to leave his home, his friends, and the bandits that are his responsibility.

Though he is a bandit he is not without honor. Tasuki is associated with courage as his greatest and strongest attribute. He is fearless to the point of stupidity at times. Hakurou was a good man and he held his men to the same standards, just as Genrou and Kouji do in his absence. Mt. Reikaku and Mt. Kaou are both home to bandits and the two gangs have a fierce rivalry which is fought in and around the city of Souun which lies in the valley between them. Souun is the western capital of the country and between the bandit rivalries and the slight opposition to the Eastern part of the country the area is very dangerous, due to both the mountainous region and the civil unrest in the West. This means that the Reikaku bandits are an even stranger lot, led by men that uphold values many people in this harsh area do not, never mind bandits.

Even so the bandits of Reikaku take from the wealthy but never more than they can afford to lose, they do not beggar the needy, the only kill when necessary, and they do not rape. But… they are still bandits, lewd, uneducated, violent, and overly fond of sake. They are ruthless when they have to be but under Hakurou, Genrou, and Kouji they are less violent and more… social outcasts. The entire gang goes to Konan’s aid when the Kutou invades the Eastern capital and endangers the priestess proving their worth as men of honor, even if they are still rather rough around the edges.

Tasuki is no different, though for all the grey of his morals his world view is rather black and white. Kutou is Evil. Konan is awesome. Seiryuu and everyone working for him are all assholes. Suzaku is badass. People fall into neat categories with him and he has no trouble with that. If he allowed himself to use that empathy that makes him so unintentionally observant at times he might find himself prone to sympathize with the enemy. But his own feelings deter anything of the sort, especially when he is young. That fiery temper he possesses ensures that he will carry grudges against anyone that injures those he is loyal to far beyond their deaths.

Sexuality: Tasuki hates women. No really, he was the youngest of 7 and the only male. His father was a useless weakling that did whatever his mom said and poor young Tasuki was bossed around, dressed up, smothered, and otherwise suffered the wrath of seven women in a single house. He hates women. Though he does make a few flippant comments about finding girls in the cities they stop in from time to time.

That said, he loves Miaka dearly and thinks of her affectionately later (admitting to more familial feelings after an incident with demon possession). He loved Rei-Rei in a way as well but it was her spirit and ferocity that drew him in. He can’t stand girly women with their confusing emotions and expectations and the way they never say what they mean. He’s a bandit, he’s sure to have had a night with a woman here and there, likely visits to a brothel with Kouji in tow. But never anything meaningful. Sex, to him, is just a casual form of stress relief, indulgent much like drinking. If he were ever to get involved in an actual relationship, however, it would be just as likely (if not more so) to be with a man as a woman. Casual sex between good friends that grows into something more. (A relationship it is entirely possible he had with Kouji)

It is, however, also shown in Oni that Tasuki is a bit of a romantic at heart, even going so far as to tell Taitsukun that Miaka and Tamahome should be together no matter what, even if it means it will affect the two worlds, even if it means they can’t seal the book away. None of it should matter to them because their love and devotion to each other should be more important than anything else. A sentiment that even Miaka and Tamahome have come to accept is not enough anymore.

Skills and Powers: Tasuki is a Celestial Warrior of Suzaku. The power he has from Suzaku is advanced speed. In Genrou Den it is stated that a journey up Mt. Reikaku which takes 4 hours (when the paths are followed) takes him under half an hour (and he doesn’t take the path). He’s also shown to move faster than the eye can follow in battle. Though this is his power by Suzaku it is not something he relies on often. Sneaking around with super speed is too strategic and, he feels, underhanded. Tasuki is far more direct and will always be quick to reach for the main weapon he wields, his tessen.

The tessen is an enchanted fan that belonged to Hakurou, the former leader of the Reikaku bandits. When the spell “Rekka Shinen” is spoken the fan shoots waves of fire. Taitsukun enchants the fan so that it only responds to Tasuki’s commands and transforms it from mere iron to diamond plated, making it impossible to break. It is shown in later canon that he can eventually gain enough control to summon the fire without words and also direct it in a much more controlled manner.

Items: His tessen and his jewelry (turquoise earrings, a necklace of semi-precious beads likely amethyst and jade, and a gold beaded necklace with a medallion of Suzaku on it)

Writing samples: All samples do need to be set within Sanctum’s game setting, and give a good idea of how you will play your character in-game!

Action:

The hell? [It is hard to tell what the feed is even showing at first, just a blurry view of reds. Slowly shapes come into focus as the device is withdrawn… from someone’s mouth?! There’s a glimpse of fangs before a face comes into view, tanned skin, bright fiery reddish-orange hair, and golden eyes. Between the teeth and the eyes there’s something distinctly wolfish about the man’s appearance. Even if he looks utterly confused just now.]

Eeeeh!? Some hospitality! The hell kinda food is this! [Another voice comes from off screen, a woman from the information booth trying to explain that it’s not food but the bandit’s already moving to bang the TMB against the side of a table as if he could crack the device open to find some sort of food inside.]

Whaddya mean it ain’ food? The hell else d’ya welcome people ta yer city with?! [The booth attendant’s small hands close over it, protecting it from the blow and stopping him but he jerks his hand back, glaring slightly.] No, no I got it, lady. ‘ve seen shit like this from the priestess’ world! ‘s alrigh!

[He just laughs loudly, grinning as he continues to fuss with it much to the woman’s exasperation, cutting the feed out a short moment later.]

Third Person Prose:

He was getting better at this whole… being transported by magic thing. He’d managed to keep his feet when they made it to Miaka’s world (rather than landing flat on his ass like usual) and now that Suzaku was transporting them back he was…

Not. In. Konan.

For a moment he just blinked in confusion, head tipping back as he gawked up at the ferris wheel, mouth falling open, utterly dumbfounded. Then his brain seemed to catch up with what he was seeing. “EEEEEEHHH!?! The hell is this shit?! OI!! Suzaku! TAITSUKUN!!” He lifted one hand, shouting futilely at the sky and attracting the attention of quite a few passersby. Then again… it was hard to ignore him at that volume.

He paused long enough to look around again, spinning in circles until he was getting dizzy. “Chichiri!? HEY! C’mon don’ tell me ya went an abandoned me too?! CHICHIRI GET YER ASS OVER HERE RIGHT NOW!” By which point he really was dizzy and he slumped down to the ground, sitting in the middle of the walkway with his legs splayed out and his shoulders slumped as his head spun. “How the hell did I end up bein’ the one tha gets lost?”

“Look Taitsukun ‘m sorry I called yer face scary alrigh!? JUST PUT ME BACK!” Once again he was shouting at the sky, though it was really far less effective when he had his eyes closed to fight off the dizziness and was still sitting on his ass on the sidewalk.

“Sir, please calm down! Everything’s going to be alright!” A bright, bubbly voice chirped from beside him.

“Nyan-Nyan!” He didn’t even really look, just recognized that voice and leapt at the small young woman, latching onto her in a fierce hug. “I knew ya wouldn’ really jus leave me he- …..” Then he blinked down at the blond hair and rather startled brown eyes of the woman he was squeezing.

Wait a second… “HEY! Yer not Nyan-Nyan! DAMMIT JUS WHAT THE HELL IS GOIN ON HERE!?”

And as he shouted yet another curse at the sky, at this Suzaku of his the poor woman from the welcome committee could only heave an exasperated sigh. It was definitely going to be a long day.

In the Rift sample: N/A

Plans: In the OVAs Tasuki is shown to become more mature and controlled. It should prove to be quite interesting to see how or even if that develops once he’s taken out of his canon setting. Tasuki is also very much a people person, regardless of how abrasive he is and I hope to see how his interactions with others go.

Having someone teach him that not all women are bound to get him in trouble or pile undue stress upon him could be fun too. But mostly it will be interesting to play through him coping with the dramatic change that Sanctum presents. He’s spent the better part of a year traveling with his friends, battling gods, losing the people closest to him… There’s always been a higher purpose though, a mission that justified all of the death and heartache. With that fulfilled and him alone in this new place he’ll finally have a chance to slow down. Which will mean finally being allowed to grieve for lost friends and also find a new purpose.
